Micro Focus’ ArcSight Intelligence team, for the 9th consecutive year, contributed their insights into the 2023 Verizon Data Breach Investigations Report (DBIR) which discusses the challenges in the current cybersecurity environment.
In the evolving world of cybersecurity, human error is one of the largest topics that experts advise on year after year, breach after breach. Humans are a key element in preventing cyber attacks, but have also been key contributors to cybersecurity breaches, 74% according to the DBIR.
Targeting the human element can happen in a number of ways, but the past year has seen a large increase in pretexting. According to Micro Focus, ‘Pretexting involves the use of fabricated identities or scenarios to deceive individuals into divulging sensitive information or granting unauthorized access.’ In addition, the use of generative AI allows attackers to be creative and sophisitcated in their attacks with an added level of deception that is much more difficult to detect.
With attackers getting smarter, how can organizations continue to monitor and protect the human element? User entity behavior analytics (UEBA).
By continously monitoring user behavior, organizations can then begin to quickly and easily detect actions out of the ordinary, and alert to a possible breach in their systems. ArcSight Intelligence can help to show the capabilities of behavior analytics and use their solutions to continue to protect against cybersecurity threats.
